About Our Central Square, Good Ole Boys Junior Bassmasters Club

Submitted by Jeff Edgarton, GOB Junior Bassmaster Youth Director

History

The Good Ole Boys Junior Bassmasters Club (GOBJBM) was founded on Tuesday evening, January 30, 2007 at the Central Square Fire Station with a group of 10 eager youngsters (Charter Member's) along with the support of their proud parents.  The club has since grown to 22 youngsters.

Overview / Summary

The principal objectives in the operation of National B.A.S.S. and State supported Junior clubs are that each youngster regardless of age and gender is given the opportunity to gain quality knowledge, while experiencing life and conservation in the great outdoors.

Youngsters not only learn how to properly catch fish, but also learn how to manage their own Junior Clubs through parliamentary procedures ... through educational workshops ... through “how to” clinics and more importantly engage in hands-on activities with their Club Youth Director, other mentors and educators.

Competition is just one of the many goals for our Junior Athletes”.  Conservation, habitat restoration, adopting waterways, community service projects, preserving the wholesome recreational sport of fishing and most importantly, having fun!

Leadership is one of the attributes we instill in our youngsters as they control their club and all of the associated activities while the adults are overseeing and guiding their moves. This junior club operates similar to our adult Good Ole Boys Club utilizing the identical format and procedures.  The youngsters are encouraged to bring new ideas to each meeting, discuss them and vote on them to decide if they should be adopted.
